May, 2008

Now that the 4th Annual Training Conference is behind us, we see that we have even
more work to do in the immediate future.

With the election came a shake up in the Executive Board - with some members not
returning, and some new faces joining the team.  As a group, I can tell you how excited
we are about the future of the Association, and the training that will be heading your way
in the very near future.

I want to take a minute to thank all  of the instructors who helped make the 2008
Training Conference the biggest and best ever.  We are truly lucky that they take the
time out of their schedules and appreciate what we all do as dispatchers enough to share
their expertise with us.  Without the instructors giving of their time and their knowledge,
the conference would simply not be as successful as it has been.  So, our hats off to all of
them, we truly can't thank you enough.

A big thank you to our special guests from New York City - Moe and Cheryl.  It was great
to hang out with them for a week and get to know them.  Moe and Cheryl did a great job
with a presentation that was handed to them as they left New York - and I didn't realize
until later that during the conference was the first time Cheryl had ever spoken about the
events that personally affected her on September 11th.  It was nice to see that heroes
can be real people.

You should know that we are already hard at work at the 2009 Training Conference -
after all this will be the FIFTH ANNUAL Training Conference - so we are going to have to
step it up even more this next year!  The date for the conference will be April 6 through
April 9th.  We are working on firming up our Key Note Speakers - but expect something
great!  And the class selection will be top notch again this year.

But before the conference can get here - we have a great training day planned in
Northern California - in Tracy.  Saturday, August 2nd we will be taking over West High
School to hold Active Shooter Training scenarios.  This realistic training will include local
dispatchers, School Resource Officers, SWAT Teams and patrol officers, along with school
personnel - to learn first hand how to handle a school  shooting.  You will not want to miss
this great day.  Members are free, non-members are $20.  Sworn personnel are free, we
just ask for a $10 donation for lunch and drinks throughout the day.  To reserve space,
send an email to kurt@tacticaldispatch.com as soon as possible - space is limited!

We have some other exciting things planned for you in the future - be sure to check the
web site often.  If you know of any incidents you would like to see debriefed, or if your
agency has handled an incident you think others could learn from, let one of the board
members know and we will be in contact with you to present at a future Regional Training
Meeting.

Thanks very much!
